Lenovo is Serious about Reliability and Ease of Doing Business

By Rod Lappin, SVP, Global Sales & Marketing, Lenovo Data Center Group

Technology reliability has become so second nature in our daily lives, and we often take it for granted. Just think about how frustrating it can be when your WiFi stops working because just as you are about to send an important email, or when your mobile phone battery dies as you’re about to navigate on a GPS app to a meeting in a new city that you don’t know your way around. As consumers, there is an expectation that all of our personal technology and networks will function without interruption. And when they don’t function with ease, it’s not only incredibly frustrating, it impacts productivity and can cost you money.

Now consider what reliability means in a data center that often powers an entire business. A few minutes of downtime can cause productivity disruptions, destroyed data, even revenue losses and failure to meet regulatory requirements or service level agreements (SLAs). Downtime can also disrupt customer relations and impact a company’s brand. Not to mention, with today’s advancements around cloud, virtualization and IoT ecosystems, there has never been a more critical time to ensure you’re not taking reliability for granted.

Reliability is a key driving factor for our enterprise and small business customers, where downtime can be incredibly costly. According to Industry analyst firm, Information Technology Intelligence Consulting (ITIC), and its latest Global Server Hardware Reliability Report*, 98% of organizations say that a single hour of downtime costs over $100,000; 81% of respondents indicated that 60 minutes of downtime costs their business over $300,000 and a record one-third or 33% of enterprises report that one hour of downtime costs their firms $1 million to over $5 million. That’s a serious, and costly concern.

At Lenovo Data Center Group, we’ve worked hard to ensure that we are delivering products that not only support uptime to the fullest, but don’t end up as added cost. ITIC’s latest report, based on a survey of C-level executives and IT managers from over 750 corporations of all sizes worldwide, proves that Lenovo servers demonstrated the least amount of unplanned downtime among all mainstream x86 server offerings. And to top it off, an overwhelming 99% of respondents rated service and support, product quality as excellent. The proof is in the data!

We also know that ease of business is paramount to customer experience and meeting customer expectations. This applies to our daily and professional lives. Just as we know our customers need to ensure uptime and reliability for their own customers, we aim to do the same. This year, Lenovo also maintains its #1 position in customer satisfaction for the eighth consecutive Technology Business Research (TBR) study**, since January 2015 and 24 of 30 since 2H 2009. The study includes biannual surveys of 300 IT decision makers responsible for purchasing x86 servers. The report notes that Lenovo received the highest level of brand loyalty as a result of meeting customer expectations for reliability, performance and efficiency.

These two independent and objective industry reports speak volumes to what customers can achieve with Lenovo in the data center to exceed product, sales, service and reliability expectations. Trust in working with a data center partner is paramount; I believe our leadership in x86 server customer satisfaction and reliability are two very critical attributes that set Lenovo a part from the competition.
